With the fashion industry rapidly evolving, the ability to design in 3D has become an essential part of academic curriculums. We collaborated with Hong Kong Design Institute to host a Digital Design Competition (DFDC) for their fashion design students.
The 10 finalists showcased their final renderings during HKDI’s Annual Fashion Show “New Fashion Force 2023” on the 27th of June. Hong Kong Design Institute is the first Hong Kong academic institute to create a virtual fashion show featuring student’s designs.
Over 90+ HKDI students participated in the DFDC showcasing their demonstrate their ability to create innovative designs using CLO software. Student’s uploaded their submissions onto CLO-SET for us to review moodboard, produce an animated video and design inspiration about fabric, materials and colour boards.
Throughout the competition, HKDI and CLO evaluated the students' designs based on their originality, technical execution from garment stability, and overall creativity. The 10 finalists were invited to the CLO Hong Kong office to have a support session with our 3D Designers.
“I learnt how to refine my 3D garment with high resolution settings and render it with staging and lighting," said Lau Wing Yi Brianna. “I also learnt how to utilise PBR texture maps to express realistic materials. The mappings help achieve photorealistic material on my 3D garment after rendering.”
The 10 Finalists - Cheng Hiu Nam, Lau Wing Yi Brianna, Chen Song Wen, Tsum Ka Yee, Duan Qiqi, Yang Ka Man, Lau Cheuk Fung, Xu Lulu, Kock Man Yan and Lam Man Hin.
